PERIODONTAL TREATMENT
Periodontal disease is break down of the supporting structures of the teeth. Having healthy gums and bone is essential to oral health. Upon your initial exam, we do a very thorough examination of the overall health of your gums. With this information, we can best determine [the health of your gums, and] whether or not any additional treatment is indicated. Sometimes, there are instances where we may choose to have you see a specialist to address a specific problem. However, we are one of the few general dental offices that utilize a perioscope. A non-surgical way to treat localized periodontal disease.
Perioscopy is a new procedure using a miniature dental endoscope with advanced video, lighting and magnification technology that enables us to diagnose and treat areas below the gum line non-surgically.
Dr. Reich and Dr. Scoles have highly trained hygienists who utilize this miniature camera. They can clean your teeth more thoroughly under 48 times magnification, promoting healing and potentially preventing further damage and tooth loss.
Perioscopy is state of the art technology that helps patients avoid surgery and also helps maintain patients on standard periodontal maintenance plans.
The Benefits of Perioscopy
- Provides a comfortable, non-surgical, periodontal treatment option.
- Pinpoints unseen deposits that cause bleeding and inflammation.
- Enables detection of periodontal conditions and other dental problems in earlier, more manageable stages.
- Enhances effectiveness of regular periodontal maintenance programs.
- Raises the standard of oral health care by using a new level of visualization to help fight periodontal disease and associated tooth loss.
ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
What exactly is a root canal? A root canal is the flesh and blood inside of your tooth. It has a nerve, artery and vein which provides the blood supply to your tooth. Unfortunately, this part of your tooth can get infected due to bacterial infection from a cavity, or damaged due to trauma. Root canal treatment is a procedure where damaged or diseased nerve and blood vessels of a tooth are removed from the tooth and replaced with a filling material. Here's how your tooth is saved through treatment:
First, an opening is made through the crown of the tooth. The nerve is then removed. The root canal(s) are cleaned and shaped to a form that can be filled. The pulp chamber and root canals are filled and sealed. The tooth is now stable, safe from further bacterial infection. The tooth is not “dead”, it still receives nourishment from tissues in the jaw bone. However, it cannot feel and or get re-infected. In some instances, the root canal treated tooth will need a crown after the procedure.
CROWN & BRIDGE TREATMENT
Dental crowns are dental restorations that cover the entire tooth. We utilize dental crowns when rebuilding broken or decayed teeth, as a way to strengthen teeth, and a method by which the cosmetic appearance of a tooth can be improved.
We utilize the most advanced materials when making crowns for our patients. All ceramic restorations will give your teeth a healthy natural appearance. We strive to make very natural restorations. The best compliment we can receive, is when you cannot tell we did any work!
IMPLANT TREATMENT
A dental implant is one option for replacing a tooth. Implants are manufactured devices that are placed surgically in the jaw, where they function as anchors for replacement teeth. Implants are made of titanium, a material that is one of the most biocompatible materials available.
An implant looks and feels like a natural tooth. A single implant is a free-standing unit and, unlike a bridge, does not involve treatment to the adjacent teeth. Implants are the ideal way to restore a missing tooth. They offer better esthetics, durability, and function.
Dr. Reich and Dr. Scoles have remained current with the latest techniques in restoring implants. Dr. Scoles is a member of the International Congress of Oral Implantologists.
CONSCIOUS SEDATION
Conscious sedation via nitrous oxide and/or oral sedatives is a great way to make dental appointments more enjoyable for someone who is apprehensive or has a fear of receiving dental treatment.
Nitrous oxide, commonly called laughing gas, is used on patients of all ages and has very few side effects. Nitrous oxide is mixed with oxygen and inhaled through a small mask. The effects of nitrous oxide wear off almost immediately after the mask is removed.
We can also prescribe an oral sedative such as valium or halcion. Used in conjunction with nitrous oxide, these drugs can make your visit with us much less stressful.
ORAL SURGERY
If you have a non-restorable tooth, or a wisdom tooth that needs to me removed, it can be done in the office. We meet the majority of our patient’s oral surgery needs, with very few being referred to a specialist. |
